Ecovillaggio Torri Superiore

Welcome to Torri Superiore

painting of ecovillage torri superioreEcovillage and Holiday Center in the western Liguria

The medieval village of Torri Superiore is a small jewel of popular architecture located at the foothill of the Ligurian Alps, a few kilometers from the Mediterranean Sea and the French border, close to the coastal town of Ventimiglia. Originally from the thirteenth century and built entirely of stone, the village is structured in three main blocks with more than 160 rooms, all connected by an intricate fabric of passages and stairways. Its complex and fascinating structure has often been compared to a fortress or a labyrinth perched on the mountainside, which reaches 1300 meters. The village has been completely restored and its welcoming structure is open for stays and holidays: ecotourism, courses, meetings and programs on environmental education.

Our services

Torri Superiore and the Ecovillage are the same thing: the Ecovillage includes all the resident and non-resident members, and all guests are invited to follow the ecological principles to have a low environmental impact. Torri Superiore is a member of GEN (Global Ecovillage Network), RIVE (Rete Italiana Villaggi Ecologici) and of the permaculture movement; this has stimulated the group to focus on ecology and achieve its objectives in an increasingly sustainable way.

The guesthouse at Torri Superiore is open for 10 months a year (closed in January and February) and offers cosy accommodation in the beautiful medieval village in Liguria, at the foothill of the Maritime Alps and close to the sea. Between sea and mountains, it is a perfect place for a holiday in a relaxing environment, in an unspoiled natural context, full of suggestions and cultural stimuli.

Ecovillage Torri Superiore is an ideal venue to organize meetings and special events. It features a well-equipped and evocative location with a large meeting room connected to a smaller Yoga room, a library, a children's play room, ample dining rooms, several partly covered terraces and an internet point with free wifi.

You are welcome in the medieval village of Torri

From medieval village to Ecovillaggio

The activities at Torri Superiore are managed by three interrelated and partly overlapping organisms:

The Torri Superiore Cultural Association, founded in 1989 to oversee the restoration of the medieval village and the creation of the Ecovillage, the cultural centre and the resident community. The association does not have political, ideological or religious positions.

The Society Cooperative Ture Nirvane, founded in 1999, it manages all eco-tourism activities and coordinates courses, workshops, seminars and other cultural activities. The cooperative is a member of Legacoop Liguria, of the Ethical Bank, of Cooperfidi and Confcommercio.

The resident community, consisting of about 20 people (between adults and children) who live in the Ecovillage. The community meets twice a week and makes its own decisions based on consensus.

"Magnificent place, cozy and quiet. Thank you for letting us know a different way of life!

Renata e Giulia

"I lost track of time, thanks to the simplicity, the good company, the excellent cuisine… I had a great time! "

"Zero want to go home… We will like to think of you and this beautiful village as a place not only to relax, but also to witness that "another world is possible." Good continuation and good work, hoping to see you again soon. In the meantime the decline will be a topic that we shall deepen. Thank you, we have been very well! "
